Floß. December 2018. The fruitful collaboration between economy and higher education is reflected in very practical things.
Since 2004 the students of OTH Amberg-Weiden have been developing and building an annual racing car as the Running Snail Racing Team. Almost as long Nexans autoelectric has been supporting Prof. Horst Rönnebeck’s dedicated team with material and valuable know-how – since 2008 also with financial resources.
At the annual sponsor event Dr. Helmut Steinberg – responsible for the technical predevelopment in the company – presented the students of the Running Snail Racing Team with a donation cheque amounting to 1.000 Euros.
The racing-team can look back on a successful 2018 season. At races in Hockenheim and in Spain the team secured a third place each, and in the Czeck Republic the team even took second place. The driving topics in the automobile industry, like the reduction of weight and CO2 – emission, are also in the focus of the student designers and constructors: in 2004 the racing car weighed 350 kilos. In 2018 the vehicle will be slimmer, half the weight and with a powerful electric drive.
